Optic nerve adapter

Middle to high ranking Combine units rely on an optic nerve adapter for sight. The device is composed of:

  • The adapter/processing unit itself - translating light (electromagnetic radiation spectrum 380-700 nm wavelength) into electrical signals that can be interpreted into images by the user's brain. It's attached to the end of the optic nerve, in place of the globe of the eye.
  • Splitter - dividing optical-nanofiber cables.
  • Optical-nanofiber cable - transmits light signals, captured by the eyepiece. The cables end with a male connector piece.
  • Mask connector - male-type, extends from the eyepiece through the second layer of the mask, enables the connection of the user's optical-nanofiber cable to their eyepiece's.
  • Emergency/auxillery lens - additional photoreceptors carried as a part of first aid packages, in the event of an eyepiece malfunction/damage. Attachable to the optical-nanofiber cable ending. Provides basic visual aid.
  • The optic nerve adapter allows for improved sight as well as image magnification when paired with the Combine mask eyepiece.
